"Why Do You Care So Much?"

Where are all my empaths? Where are all the people who cry when a sad scene comes on in a movie? Where are all the people who care so deeply for others that they almost adopt their issues and worries? I am a very empathetic person. I can be very sensitive to things that don't affect me but affect people close to me. I recently found myself having a conversation with my mom and step dad about something that was frusturating me. I was amidst a situation where I was witnessing someone being treated disrespectfully. This had been an ongoing thing and my heart hurt for this person. You might be asking, "But why Isabella? What does this have to do with you?" I can't stand that question. Why does everything have to be about us in order for us to remotely care? If that's the case, should I not go to another person's birthday party since it's not my birthday party? Should I not go to another person's wedding since it is not my wedding and all about me? Do I not show up for a person going through a tough time, because I personally am not going through a tough time? That, to me, is witless.

Anyways, I watched this person be treated so fouly and I felt the need to say something. And I was telling my parents about this on the phone, when I was asked the question, "Isabella why do you even care? Like why do you care so much about what other people do or think?" That's like asking a cop why he or she cares about the crime rates. Or like asking a doctor why he or she cares about the mortality rates in the world. It's because they are programmed to care. It's their passion. Their passion is what drives them. As a Christian, if I see other believers treating someone without kindness and with cruelty, I'm going to care. Wouldn't Jesus care? Isn't that why Jesus gives us hearts? We should use them to love one another and to care. And I'm not going to lie- but this way of thinking; the mindset that we shouldn't care about anything that doesn't affect us promotes a dangerous aspect of individuality. Not saying that being an individual and being independent is wrong, but it gets to a certain point where all you are doing is thinking about yourself. Can you imagine if God was like that? Can you imagine if God said, "Well I really don't need y'all so why should I care?" This segment is a bit short, but I'm going to end it there so that you can ponder this question. If God cares for us, why is it so hard for us to care for one another?
